Don't get me wrong, I'm relieved that she's out and seems to be physically fine, even able to visit her son.
But her tweets since then? They're still clinging to those absurd opinions that intensified during her decline. Things like mentioning "transgender illnesses," jokes about being admitted to a psychiatric hospital for being "transphobic," and everything related to the child sacrifice conspiracy theory, adrenochrome, and her obsession with Ariel Pink (whom she still calls her "little friend"). Many people thought she was trolling until she publicly outed a close trans friend during her mental health crisis.
She even ranted at a fan account and told them to delete it and get help. I believe this person was also on our Discord server a couple of years ago. It's tragic because I remember the Ashley who loved everyone, shared her art, and had nothing but warmth and love.
The one who was known in the youth scene and underground online spaces. The queer people who loved and admired her. Now I feel like that artistic passion is deeply submerged under layers of anger and delusion. As a longtime fan (since 2015, with her covers of The Crying Game and Weird Girl!), do I continue to support her music and hope for improvement, or do I distance myself because these opinions are too extreme and hurtful? I don't want to enable it or ignore it, but I also don't want to leave someone so clearly in need. This wasn't the Ashley Ultra we knew :(
Some friends showed me that Ashley was creating and putting random people in these Facebook groups. A friend who participates in one of them personally knows Delancey's producer, who I believe is @jadentyoung and not Evin Good. She told me she'll soon be starting a Twitter account for music updates called Ultraverse, keeping things separate from her personal drama. I'll post here as soon as it happens; fingers crossed it brings a positive focus back to her work. And yes, Delancey is supposed to be released later this year, despite the fights and everything. It's a glimmer of hope amidst the chaos.
By the way, Ashley is upset about some old photos circulating. I shared that lovely old photo back in January, assuming it was from one of her shows at The Sandbox or something. Ultimately, after some more digging (and someone in the scene pointing it out), it turned out it was actually taken at Missie B's, that legendary nightclub LGBT in Kansas City. She looked amazing, all intense and in her element, but apparently, she's not thrilled with the confusion and context being highlighted now. Perhaps it's due to her changing stances, or perhaps the scrutiny is simply getting to her. In any case, I'll correct you: it wasn't a formal show, but rather a night at Missie B's, where she turned heads as always. If you're reading this, Ashley, don't be offended; it's all love for your art.Going live to address @AshleyUltraZone pic.twitter.com/1a4zo6j6q7
